Abstract/Contents: | Addresses the effect of soil acidity on turfgrass growth. Describes the differences between soil acidity and alkalinity, and states that "it is necessary to know under which pH the grass or grasses used in the production of turf swards give the best results for the particular purpose for which they are being cultivated." Explains that the two most popular turfgrasses in Australia, Blue Couch and Indian Couch, require an acidic and neutral soil pH respectively. Provides methods for determining soil pH, such as the use of a color indicator. Notes that "when the natural pH level of the soil does not agree with the specific plant growths to be raised therein it must be made so by artificial means." |
