Abstract/Contents: | Presents the results of a 2011 online survey conducted by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America to assess the impact of best management practices (BMPs) on superintendents' efforts to minimize anthracnose on greens. Reports that anthracnose incidence varied by region, but 66 percent of the superintendents surveyed stated that anthracnose was a problem on their course. States that "88% of superintendents managing anthracnose have increased soluble-nitrogen fertility on their putting greens before and during anthracnose outbreaks in response to BMPs developed by the NE-1025 project and 38% have increased granular nitrogen applications in the spring." Continues that half of the superintendents surveyed increased mowing heights to reduce disease severity, balancing agronomic management with the need to provide fast playing conditions. Includes results in regards to topdressing and irrigation practices, and concludes that "results from this survey indicate that superintendents throughout the United States and Canada are familiar with the anthracnose BMPs developed by NE-1025 researchers." |
