| Abstract/Contents: | Reports that in the spring of 1997, temperatures were very cool. Notes that "while the timing spring greenup of turfgrasses has been reasonably normal, subsequent initiation of significant shoot growth has been greatly delayed by as much as a month." Mentions that many golf course superintendents who used nitrogen fertilizers in the spring but obtained no response. States that "what these individuals failed to realize was the soil temperatures had not achieved sufficiently warm levels to permit significant shoot growth to occur." Includes factors that can affect the rate of soil warming, including mowing height and drainage. |
