Title:Making positive changes in Flint with greening projects
Source:News Notes [Michigan Turfgrass Foundation]. Vol. 5, No. 1, Spring 2013, p. 21-22.
# of Pages:2
Publishing Information:Lansing, Michigan [Saginaw, Michigan]: Michigan Turfgrass Foundation
Keywords:TIC Keywords: Community service; Public involvement; Urban landscaping
Abstract/Contents:Discusses a project led by Stephen Gasteyer to improve physical surroundings in two neighborhoods in Flint, Michigan. States that the project involved clearing overgrown common areas and vacant lots in the hopes that "the development of a more vibrant social ecology mitigates the effects of structural decline." Notes that while there are indications of community members coming together after the program, Flint has continued to spiral downward economically. Concludes that Gasteyer advocates for more communication between the project in Flint and other like projects so that their communities can be more effectively served.
