Abstract/Contents: | "An experiment was conducted to evaluate the control of smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Muhl) with selected preemergence and postemergence herbicides and their combinations. The study was conducted on a blend of perennial ryegrass at the Landscape Management Research Center of the Penn State University, University Park, PA. Treatments were arranged in a complete randomized block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a 3', CO2 powered boom sprayer, delivering 40 gal/A with two T-jet 6504 nozzles, on July 7, 1991. The crabgrass was in the 2 to 4 tiller stage at the time of application. Crabgrass control was rated on a scale of 0 to 100%, with 80% being considered acceptable control. Plots were rated August 27, 1991. Prodiamine at 0.38 lbs ai/A combined with fenoxaprop-ethyl at 0.18 lbs ai/A provided the best control of crabgrass (93%). Prodiamine at 0.50 lbs ai/A combined with either fenoxaprop-ethyl at 0.12 lbs ai/A or MSMA at 2.00 lbs ai/A, and fenoxaprop-ethyl alone at 0.18 lbs ai/A also provided acceptable control." |
