Abstract/Contents: | Pre-emergence herbicides used for the control of annual grass weeds such as Digitaria spp. may cause damage to turf grasses. Root and rhizome development was restricted and a substantial thatch layer formed in Poa pratensis cv. Merion turf following 3 annual applications of Bandane [polychlorodicyclopentadiene isomers 7.5% granules] at 35 lb/acre and calcium arsenate at 392 lb/acre. No earthworms were found in the upper 3 inches of soil. DCPA [chlorthal dimethyl] at 15 lb/acre also caused a significant decrease in rooting, but benfluralin at 2 lb, bensulide at 15 lb and siduron at 8 lb/acre were safe. |
