Abstract/Contents: | "Turf response to a fenoxyprop-ethyl (HOE-00581=HOE-33171=HOE-A25-01) was evaluated in a glass house environment. Individual sprigs of Poa pratensis L. cv. 'Wabash' were planted in December 1982, mature plants treated with 1 lb.ai/gal. fenoxyprop-ethyl (HOE-00581=HOE-33171=HOE-A25-01) on 29 Jan. 1983. Application rates were 0.2 and 0.4 kg/ha (0.175 and 0.35 lbs./A). Phytotoxicity ratings were taken on 14 Mar. 83 and showed no significant differences between treated plots and untreated control. Plants were harvested on 17 Mar. 83. Plant heights were 12.7 cm at 0.2 kg/ha, 12.2 untreated control, and 10.3 cm at 0.4 kg/ha. There was no significant difference between treatments. The number of rhizomes per plant was 5.4 for the untreated control, 3.6 at 0.2 and 1.6 at 0.4 kg/ha. There was a significant reduction in rhizome numbers between the untreated control, the 0.2 and 0.4 kg/ha rate and between the 0.2 and 0.4 kg/ha rates. There was no significant difference in length of the longest rhizome. The number of tillers per plant was 9.8 for the untreated control, 6.2 at 0.2 and 4.6 tillers at 0.4 kg/ha. There was a significant difference between the untreated control and 0.2 and 0.4 kg/ha, but no significant difference between the 0.2 and 0.4 kg/ha rates. There was no significant difference in root length. Post emergent controls were applied to young, 2 to 3 leaf stage, crabgrass on 23 Jan. 83 at 0.13 and 0.2 kg/ha with 0.25% DuPont WK surfactant (trimethylnonylpoly-ethoxyethanol) at 0.13, 0.2, 0.28 and 0.56 kg/ha without the surfactant. The HOE-A25-01 was also combined with 2,4-D + MCPP + dicamba at 0.28 + 0.43 kg/ha rate. There was no evidence of bluegrass phytotoxicity on 30 Jan. 83. Post emergent crabgrass control on 12 July 83, 19 days after application, was from 83% at 0.13 without surfactant to 100% at 0.28 and 0.56 kg/ha. There was no significant difference in control at these rates. Control with the HOE-A25-01 + 2,4-D, MCPP at 73% was significantly less than that at either 0.28 and 0.56 kg/ha. A second post emergent crabgrass control application was made to a mature crabgrass on 29 July 83. HOE-A25-01 was applied at 0.13 and 0.2 kg/ha with the DuPont WK surfactant at 0.25% and at 0.13, 0.2, 0.28 and 0.56 without the surfactant. Also HOE-A25-01 + siduron at 0.28 + 6.7 kg/ha and Daconate 6E @ 1.5 repeat at 14 days and Daconate 6E + 2,4-D at 1.5 + 1.1 kg/ha were applied. Phytotoxicity ten days after application showed all treatments were significantly more phytotoxic than the untreated control. There was very little difference in phytotoxicity between rates. Crabgrass control on 6 Sept. 83, 39 days after application, showed no significant differences between treatments. HOE-A25-01 resulted in 100% control at 0.13 and 0.2 with and without the surfactant, and at 0.56 kg/ha, 97% control at 0.28 and the HOE-A25-01 + siduron and HOE + 2,4-D, MCPP, dicamba. Daconate at 1.5/1.5 repeat treatments had 87% control and Daconate + 2,4-D, 70% control." |
