Abstract/Contents: | "Several rates of hormone-type herbicides were applied to St. Augustinegrass during the summer to determine possible phytotoxic effects. These herbicides included derivatives of both phenoxyacetic, phenoxypropionic and benzoic acid. The grass was tolerant to low rates of the chemicals with only slight damage resulting, whereas increased rates generally resulted in severe damage. Under the conditions of growth and when applied during June, the grass was tolerant of slightly over 1 pound per acre of 2,4-D (amine and ester) and Mecoprop (MCPP). Rates of 1 pound per acre appear to approach the upper level of tolerance for dicamba. Further investigations are suggested to determine if the tolerance level varies for applications during other seasons of the year." |
