Abstract/Contents:In greenhouse experiments with 2 kinds of soil the germination of Agrostis tenuis cv. Highland Bent, Festuca rubra rubra cv. Oase and Poa pratensis cv. Merion was, in general, slightly improved by the use of the soil conditioners. In tests without soil no inhibiting or retarding effect on germination was recorded for either product. In field experiments on loamy sand with a slope of 3-5 deg. the grasses sown were types of P. pratensis and F. ovina. Curasol AE was sprayed immediately after sowing. A light fall of rain caused considerable erosion 8 days after the application of 25 g/ sq.m at a dilution of 1:33. A very heavy fall of rain 6 days after sowing caused marked erosion on a plot treated at the rate recommended by the manufacturers (50 g/sq.m at a dilution of 1:20), but the damage was relatively slight on plots sown 11 days before the heavy downfall and treated with Curasol AE at 100 g/sq.m in a 1:20 dilution. Some workers developed skin allergies after handling the Curasol products.
