Warm season and bluegrass combinations are being evaluated and compared to warm season and bentgrass combinations as well as pure stands of each species. The effect of topdressing on botanical composition and turf quality is being determined. Comparisons of warm and cool season nitrogen fertilizer programs have been in effect since May 1974. The warm season program has four-1 kg/200 m2 N applications as ammonium nitrate between early May and mid-August while, the cool season program has four-1 kg/ 200 m2 N applications applied after the bermuda goes dormant between October and mid-March. Additionally 2 kg/200 m2 of N is applied in late August with phosphorus and potassium to all plots. Plots were mowed at 1.9 cm in the summer and 2.5 cm from September to early May. Bermuda has dominated regardless of fertilizer or topdressing treatments as of summer 1975. Bentgrass dominated in spring and early summer under cool season fertilization. Topdressing and cool season fertilization improved the recovery of bentgrass from the summer damage in 1975. Zoysia was unresponsive to fertilizer treatments in 1974 and 1975."
