Abstract/Contents: | "Dollar spot (Clarireedia jacksonii) remains one of the most costly and difficult turfgrass diseases to control, requiring numerous fungicide applications annually for disease suppression and remediation. Despite the difficulty in control and reliance on fungicides, little is known about the epidemiology of the dollar spot pathogen. The objective of our research is to observe the growth and development of C. jacksonii in the field and in response to fungicide applications. We have developed a high fidelity molecular diagnostic technique, using droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), to quantify the absolute amount of C. jacksonii DNA in thatch and leaf material. Using this newly developed procedure we are investigating the pre- and post-symptomatic response of C. jacksonii to chlorothalonil and fluxapyroxad spray programs. These results will give us an improved understanding of the fungal population's response to contact and systemic fungicides and aid in the development of improved fungicide application guidelines." |
