Abstract/Contents: | "Scientists and land managers alike have long been challenged by the interpretation and best-application of remote sensing technologies. For more than 50 years, scientists have evaluated a myriad of vegetation indices and algorithms translating measures of reflectance and emittance into estimates of chlorophyll content, nitrogen status, presence of disease and drought stress, to name a few. Now, with the advent of unmanned aerial vehicles and high-resolution multi-spectral sensors, acquisition of remotely sensed data is no longer cost-prohibitive, but the underlying physics of reflectance and potential propagation of error may continue to present challenges. The objective of this seminar is to revisit the translation of remotely sensed digital values acquired via an unmanned aerial vehicle to "actionable information". Platform type, image acquisition and calibration will be reviewed from the perspective of preservation of data integrity. As a society we are steadily migrating toward digital data products, which requires a more comprehensive overview of how our management of digital data products impacts our interpretation of turfgrass and other agricultural resources." |
