Abstract/Contents: | "Dollar spot, caused by Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, is the most economically significant disease of cool-season turfgrass on golf courses. Proper cultural management practices to turfgrass are often ineffective for acceptable dollar spot control on highly maintained turf areas. Therefore, multiple fungicide applications are often needed throughout the growing season to manage dollar spot and maintain high turf quality. However, repeated use of fungicides has led to the development of resistance in S. homoeocarpa populations. Resistance to the benzimidazole, dicarboximide and succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicide classes and reduced sensitivity to the sterol demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicide class in S. homoeocarpa populations have been reported on golf courses in North America1. Moreover, the occurrence of S. homoeocarpa populations with multiple fungicide resistance (MFR) is a growing problem2,3. Therefore, objectives of the study were to evaluate field efficacy of multiple fungicide classes on a S. homoeocarpa MFR population on a golf course and to understand dynamics of the MFR population with and without fungicide selection pressures using in vitro sensitivity assays. Our goal is to develop best control options of managing the MFR population." |
