Abstract/Contents: | "Demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicides are a key component in suppression of dollar spot disease in turfgrass systems. When used repeatedly, the pathogen population develops resistance requiring higher application rates or shorter application intervals to provide effective suppression of the pathogen. The objective of this study was 1) to evaluate the differences among six isolates of known resistance levels to propiconazole when screened against nine commercially available DMI fungicides 2) to determine discriminatory doses for each fungicide . Mycelial colony growth was measured perpendicularly after 48hrs on the laboratory bench at 23-/+ 2 0C.The in vitro assay was arranged as a completely randomized design with three replications and two runs.. Field trials evaluating differences in dollar spot suppression are ongoing to supplement these results Preliminary data resulted in discriminatory doses of 0.01 μg a.i. mL-1 PDA for, propiconazole and prothioconazole, 0.1 μg a.i. mL-1 PDA for tebuconazole and 1 μg a.i. mL-1 PDA for triticonazole, myclobutanil, metconazole triadimefon, myclobutanil and flutriafol.Across sensitive isolates mefentrifluconazole, myclobutanil, and triticonazole had least mycelial growth while Triadimefon and prothioconazole resulted in the highest mycelial growth. Across moderate and highly insensitive isolates growth across all fungicides was generally similar to the sensitive isolates but with increased mycelial growth. Field trials are underway to assess differences in dollar spot control among DMIs under field conditions." |
