Abstract/Contents:"In 1992, during the period of vegetation, the mixtures differed considerably as far as the total number of species, the proportion of species groups, the number of blossoming species and their mode of blossoming were concerned. ...." Four differing mixtures produced varying proportions of grasses, legumes and herbs. The mixture Weihenstephan had a grass:legume:herb ratio of 40:20:40, building the most harmonious balance of the four mixtures. Weihenstephan also produced the largest number of blossoming grass varieties, and developed a balance so that no one grass, herb or legume species gained a dominant hold over the others, making for a more diverse and aesthetically pleasing blossoming field.
