Abstract/Contents: | "With more than 2000 species being recognized, sedge (Carex spp.) is an herbaceous perennial, showing important economic and ecological potential using as turfgrass, forage, and restoration. Habitants of sedge distribute nearly all over the world, with the majority adapted to the north temperate and arctic regions and some sedge adapts to warmer climates. The information on sedge genetic diversity and population structure along temperature gradient is limited. Therefore, the objective of this study is to estimate the genetic diversity, population structure, and their relationships with morphological variability of sedge collected from Oklahoma and Texas along a temperature gradient. Materials used in this study consist of 35 samples from seven sites between 30°11' to 36°13' N. Using genotyping-by-sequencing, single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified and used in genetic diversity and population structural analyses. The findings of this study help understand population evolution and morphological response to temperature and the potential use of Carex breeding." |
