Abstract/Contents:"A new portable device has been developed to test athletic field surfaces. There are several testing devices that investigate different aspects of the surface. No device currently simulates a foot strike that is easily portable to test surface uniformity. This device emulates a foot contacting the surface and records the forces generated on the foot in addition to surface stability. This device was designed to be portable and repeatable across any hard surface. The testing device was validated on a force plate to ensure that the forces are accurate to a human foot strike and repeatable. This device was found to have a strong correlation with the force plate in both the vertical (r = 0.96) and horizontal (r = 0.91) directions. The testing device was successfully used to track surface consistency and uniformity across a Division I college football season in a repeatable manor."
