Abstract/Contents: | "The aggregated distribution of spring dead spot (SDS) provides opportunities for reduced fungicide inputs through precision applications with GPS spray equipment. Previous research from our lab has demonstrated success with targeted applications, first using manually created spray maps and subsequently using computer automated SDS detection and geolocation. On-course applications have been scaled from small-plot research to covering full golf course fairways, with successes and challenges with each phase of new research. The objective of our current study was to apply zonal or targeted applications of isofetamid across an entire golf course using a combination of developed approaches. Aerial imagery was collected via drone across all in-play areas of the golf course while SDS was visible in Spring 2022, with disease detected and geolocated using the aforementioned computer automation and validated in ArcGIS Pro. Detected SDS present in roughs received a 1m spray zone around centroids. Disease located in fairways was subject to kernel density analysis to cover a majority of aggregated SDS. Targeted isofetamid applications were made from disease incidence maps input into a John Deere ProGator 2020A Precision Sprayer. This presentation will review some of the successes and points of friction that have since been addressed, as well provide an overview of future steps to increase adoption by turfgrass professionals." |
