Abstract/Contents: | The stabilization of root zones and allied turf have been attempted using nettings and textile fibers of various compositions that were placed horizontally under the surface of the turfed soil. A new concept involves the incorporation of randomly oriented, interlocking mesh inclusions into turfed root zones. This study discusses different densities and placements of the mesh element to provide the optimum benefits in terms of reduced turf divoting and tear, better overall soil-turf stabilization, uniformity of ball bounce, and increased soil moisture. These benefits occurred consistently when mesh elements were placed below the surface by 2.5 cm (1 in.). There did not appear to be an absolute indication of which density of mesh inclusion was best as related to the benefits. |
