Abstract/Contents: | Seven species of mole crickets have been introduced accidentally into the USA (including Hawaii), Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. Five species have been introduced into the USA: Gryllotalpa africana P. de B., G. gryllotalpa (L.), Scapteriscus abbreviatus Scud. (also introduced into Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands), S. acletus Rehn & Hebard and S. vicinus Scud. Two other species have been introduced into Puerto Rico: S. didactylus (Latr.) and S. imitatus sp. n., a new species described herein. These species have been implicated as pests of agricultural crops, turf and pasture grass. |
