Abstract/Contents: | "Results of tests...indicate that the addition of nitrogenous materials to compost not only accelerate decay of organic material but also destroys viability of a large percentage of weed seeds present, in a month or less..." Gives application rates. The same effects were found in controlling weeds in tobacco seed beds. "With greatly increased amounts of chemical nitrogen available after the war, this method of killing weed seeds in the compost piles may prove much quicker, cheaper, and more effective than the usual soil sterilization practices used on golf courses." |
