Abstract/Contents: | The debate over the use of spiked golf shoes, as opposed to spikeless golf shoes continues. "Soft spikes", as in spikes made out of plastic instead of metal, were invented by an Idaho-based inventor, named Faris McMullin in 1991. Some professionals, such as Jack Nicklaus, like the spikeless shoes. Nicklaus has even made some of the golf courses that he designed allow only spikeless shoes. Other professionals, such as Mark Calcavecchia, are totally against spikeless shoes, saying that they prevent the golfer from having good traction, and that they cause golfers to fall down. The spikeless shoes are much better for the golf greens, and they are becoming very popular. |
