Abstract/Contents: | In cocksfoot appearance of tillers was inhibited during elongation of the main stem. Removing the main stem increased numbers of tillers and heads, with the effect decreasing from early growth until there was no effect after heading. Appearance of new tillers in 3 grasses was inhibited during elongation of the main stem, the inhibition decreasing in the order tall fescue ) cocksfoot ) Italian ryegrass. Removal of the elongating main stem increased the numbers of tillers and heads produced. |
