Abstract/Contents: | In a laboratory study using small columns of artificial soil (a mixture of clays and quartz), the diffusion and in particular the mass-flow movement of K+ ions were accelerated by an increase in Cl- concentration. In field plots of Festuca arundinacea, addition of CaCl2 or CaSO4 solutions to the soil improved the K nutrition of the plants; this effect was greater in irrigated than in nonirrigated plots. |
