Abstract/Contents: | Although not required by law in Nebraska, the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension Division in cooperation with the Nebraska Golf Course Superintendents Association initiated a voluntary posting program in 1992. A sign was developed which could be used to notify golfers of pesticide applications as well as other management which may be occurring on the golf course. Over 30 golf superintendents received the signs for use on their golf courses. After completion of the growing season, surveys were completed by 10 superintendents and over 75 golfers to evaluate reactions to the posting program. Based on survey results, the voluntary posting program was a success. Golfers felt better informed and more knowledgeable about golf course management, while superintendents felt that their relationship with the golfers had improved. |
