Abstract/Contents:"There was a significant increase in a-values in the sequence, loamy sand, coarse sandy loam and loam, where ammonium was applied to pots of soil at the field capacity. Differences were also significant where nitrate was applied, but they did not vary consistently with texture. Possible reasons for this are discussed. Moisture had little effect, although a-values at the field capacity were occasionally high compared with soils in which moisture was restricted. There were significant differences between high and low labile organic matter counterparts of the loamy sand and loam. In the coarse sandy loam, immobilisation of an initial increment of the applied nitrogen resulted in a low a-value."
