Abstract/Contents: | Disc electrophoresis of seed proteins and seed enzymes was performed to detect the differences between (a) Italian ryegrass and (b) perennial ryegrass seeds and also between (c) diploid and (d) tetraploid Italian ryegrass seeds. Protein patterns distinguished (a) from (b) and also (c) from (d). Esterase patterns distinguished (a) from (b), but showed no difference between (c) and (d). For the separation of (a) and (b), esterase analysis is more strongly recommended than protein analysis owing to its handling simplicity and also the remarkable difference in the patterns. Zymograms of various other enzymes were of no use in the separation of (a) and (b). |
