Abstract/Contents:Experimental measurements of evaporation (E) and potential evapotranspiration (PET) in perennial ryegrass grown on 2 Galician soils under the climatic conditions of Santiago de Compostela in 1969-1975 are presented. E, measured in a class A pan evaporimeter correlated significantly (r = 0.979) with Penman's formula; this fit was further improved using the modification of the aerodynamic function proposed by Rijtema. The experimentally measured PET and the value calculated using the modified Penman's combined method were significantly correlated. A significant linear relationship was established between E and PET where PET = 0.20 + 0.79 Eo. Approximate estimates of PET were considered using Turc's formula. A consistent overestimation of winter and spring values was found which could be corrected by introducing the interception term.
