Abstract/Contents: | Answers the question, "What can we use for post-emergent control of crabgrass?" Suggestions include using MSMA and DSMA. Also lists dithiopyr (Dimension®), Fluazifop-p-butyl (Fusilade II®), fenoxaprop-ethyl (Acclaim Extra) and sethoxydim (Vantage®) as possible controls. Also answers: "Many lawns in surrounding neighborhoods are getting dark green rings. What is causing this and what can we spray to get rid of the rings?" The rings are called fairy rings and are caused by fungi living below the surface. Suggestions include: removing organic material from the soil (which is very difficult), using Prostar fungicide, and using hydroinjection of water and wetting agents. Also answers: "I want to maintain my athletic fields in the safest manner possible by using only 'natural' products. I've been having some success using vinegar and water to control weeds. Will continued use make the soil too acid for turf?" The answer is no, only large amounts of vinegar would affect the soil pH. |
