Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the effects of mowing on root growth rate, which appears to decrease as mowing height decreases. Suggests that lower heights lead to less surface area for leaves to absorb energy which leads to an increase in disease. Author recommends not mowing every fourth day or so to give the turf a chance to recover. Discusses the significance of mowing heights on green speed and suggests that a variation of 9 or less inches of ball roll may be a result of natural forces and not mowing heights. Concludes that any cultural practice comes with some cost to overall turf quality. |
