Abstract/Contents: | Discusses cultural changes implemented because of golfers desire to have a faster putting green surface. One of the major changes is to use closer mowing techniques. This short mowing height is causing many problems and an alternative method suggested is rolling. This would allow the turfgrass to remain heathier and there would be a reduction in algae and moss. In addition, using an alternative to spiked shoes would help keep the turfgrass healthy when the mowing has to be shorter. Researchers are coming up with new bentgrass and bermudagrass varieties for very closely mowed putting greens. |
