Abstract/Contents:	Presents recent changes observed on a trip to Japan. Discusses a 25 to 30% decrease in greens fees and faster green speeds at many Japanese golf courses. Discusses an increasing problem of disease on zoysiagrass turfs. Also discusses the Toyama Soga Athletic Park in western Japan and the construction of new stadia to host the World Cup of Soccer in 2002. Designs for the stadia include a traditional open stadium, a retractable dome stadium, and a domed stadium. The stadia will all have turfgrass fields.
