Abstract/Contents: | Lists and discusses the factors to be considered when selecting species and cultivars of grass for a golf course. Topics discussed include: climatic adaptation of grasses; soil requirements; disease, insect, heat, cold, and drought resistance; establishment rate; wear resistance and recuperative ability; shade tolerance; fertility requirements; cutting height; turfgrass density; aesthetic factors, and cost. Commonly used warm- and cool-season species are ranked on each of these qualities. Also includes a discussion of grasses for greens, tees, fairways and roughs in cool temperate, transition, warm temperate, and tropical climates. Includes a list of sources of information on turfgrass species and cultivars. |
