Abstract/Contents: | Studies of 15N flow from carbamide [urea] fertilizer were made during 1976-80 in the plant subsystem of a sandy grassland community containing Festuca vaginata, Medicago minima and Cynodon dactylon. 15N uptake was affected by the method of isotope application and the initial 15N content of the fertilizer. 15N uptake by live plants was described by the Verhulst-Brody function. Total 15N release from live plants occurred within 7 yr, that from dead plant parts within 10 yr. Greater 15N recovery was obtained from fertilizer placement at 10 cm depth rather than spraying on the soil surface. |
