Abstract/Contents:Evaluates several chemical treatments to control southern masked chafer grubs (Cyclocephala lurida). 15 different treatments were used. Three weeks after application, the soil in each cylinder was examined for surviving grubs. The grubs, which were mostly southern masked chafers but included some others, were sorted by species. "A small number of cocoons of Tiphia sp., a parasitoid of SMC, were also recovered and counted." A table includes data on SMC, SMC and parasitoids, and total number of grubs for each treatment. "For SMC grubs, all treatments except both formulations of entomopathogenic nematodes and RH 5849 at the lowest rate were significantly lower than the control ... Except for Sevin DF, formulations containing carbaryl were not as effective as Triumph, Mocap, or the growth regulators RH 5849 and RH 0345 at higher rates." Effects of the parasitoids on grub resistance was inconclusive.
