| Abstract/Contents: | Lists factors contributing to pesticides and nutrient runoff in turf. Describes results of an Oklahoma State University study examining surface runoff of several commercial pesticides, and the effect of buffers on runoff. The experiments were conducted on a bermudagrass field maintained at fairway conditions. "Treatments included 0-, 4-, 8-, and 16-foot buffer lengths. The buffer treatments were mowed at 0.5 inch to represent no rough, 1.5 inches to respresent a standard mowing height for bermudagrass rough in Oklahoma, or 3.0 inches to represent very tall rough." The buffers were effective in reducing runoff; their level of efficacy was independent of mowing height. "Greater runoff losses occurred from the herbicides and urea fertilizer." Recommends management practices to reduce runoff losses. |
