Abstract/Contents:Summarizes a study evaluating "how wind velocities affect the turf microenvironment, brown patch outbreaks, and if there was a concomitant effect on turf quality." The study, which was conducted on creeping bentgrass golf greens, indicated a direct relation between canopy temperature and wind velocities, as well as an inverse relation between soil moisture percentage and wind velocities. Algae levels also increased as soil moisture increased. The fans had a drying and cooling radius of about 4m. Brown patch control and overall turf quality were improved with fan use. The study implies that levels of pesticide use may be reduced if soil moisture can be lowered by use of fans.
