| Abstract/Contents: | "Methyl bromide (MB) has been the predominant broad-spectrum fumigant used in turfgrass installations. MB, however, has been targeted for removal because of environmental concerns. The objective of this research is to evaluate alternative fumigants for their efficacy in controlling turfgrass pests. This study is being conducted at three locations: the Univ. of Florida - Jay, FL, and on two sod farms, one near Punta Gorda, FL and the other in Sylvania, GA. Treatments include: untreated control, MB, oxadiazon/1,3-dichloropropene(1,3-D), dazomet, dazomet/chloropicrin, dazomet/1,3-D, methyl iodide, metham sodium (MS), MS/chloropicrin (tarped and not tarped), MS/1,3-D, and two experimental compounds. Data including visual quality, weed control, and nematode control were taken. Results show that methyl iodide, MS/chloropicrin (tarped), and the two experimental compounds, will provide control of many turfgrass pests." |
