Abstract/Contents: | "Nitrogen applications have traditionally been limited to surface applications. Previous studies by the authors on an creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) putting green demonstrated increased color rating scores, clipping yields, and nitrogen content in plant tissue when nitrogen was injected (by HydroJect) compared to surface applications. A study was initiated in fall 1998 to compare the uptake of (^15)N labeled ammonium nitrate (AN) between injected and surface applications on a creeping bentgrass putting green. One percent (^15)N enriched AN was either injected via HydroJet or surface applied at a rate of 50 g N mā»Ā² in 3 replications. Clipping, verdue, thatch, roots, and soil samples were excavated at 0,2,5,8,15,28, and 65 days after treatment. Samples were analyzed for (^15)N content by mass spectrometry. Differences in plant and soil (^15)N contents between application methods at various days after treatment will be discussed." |
