Abstract/Contents:"The objective of this study is to assess the effects of drought on Kentucky bluegrass sod as influenced by construction technique. Two construction techniques and two root zones were evaluated in this study. The two construction techniques were plastic barrier lined (BWT) profiles and USGA profiles. The two root zones were sand and a sand/soil mix (90:10 by volume) that meet USGA specifications. Plots measure 3.35 m x 7.6 m with a root zone depth of 30 cm. The BWT profiles have water tables held at depths of 20 cm, 10 cm, 2.5 cm, and 0 cm. Drought stress was initiated by terminating all irrigation and allowing the profiles to dry down. Moisture content and air-filled porosity were monitored using time domain reflectometry (TDR). The effects of drought on overall turf quality will be discussed."
