Abstract/Contents:"Two cultivars of bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. x C. transvaalensis Burtt-Davy], 'Champion' and 'TifEagle', have recently been released for use on golf greens. A study was conducted to assess the effects of vertical mowing and N rate on the shoot quality and root growth of these cultivars. The study was conducted on a USGA Green and involved treatment combinations of two verical mowing regimes (weekly and every two weeks) and two N rates (454 and 908 g N/93 m²/month). Data was taken monthly for color, density, uniformity, and quality. Shoot and root cores were taken to determine shoot dry weight (DW), thatch accumulation and DW, and root depth and DW. Plant tissue samples were collected, dried, ground, and analyzed for nutrient content. There were differences for color and quality for the cultivars under certain treatment combinations. 'Champion' had a higher thatch accumulation."
