Abstract/Contents: | "Putting greens demand the highest level of maintenance on golf courses and continue to be an environmental concern for Federal and Local environmental and conservation groups. Reducing fertilizers, irrigation water, and pesticide input as well as reducing any possible contamination of surface and groundwater are important issues for the golf course industry. The objective of this study was to develop an encapsulated green system to recycle nutrients, water, and pesticides, as well as to reduce any possible contamination. Excellent turf quality was maintained from June 8 to Sept. 8 at 1998 using this system. Water use efficiency was greatly increased compared with the normal irrigation rate using on sand putting greens (1.0 inch/week). Recycling water in this system helped to increase nitrogen use efficiency and eliminated the possibility of NO₃-N contamination of surface water and groundwater." |
