Abstract/Contents:"The use of Zoysia spp. as a turfgrass has increased with relatively few improved cultivars available. Diversity in [germplasm] gerplasm stock could reduce genetic vulnerability and be a resource to develop new varieties. The progeny used in this study are owned and were released by David Doguet, Bladerunner Farms. They are part of the J.J. Murray collection. The objective is to document the range of genetic diversity within the collection. In the experiment at each of two sites, a randomized complete block design was used to evaluate winter hardiness, texture, vigor of spread and density. Complete ranges in the ratings of winter hardiness, texture and density were expressed. Vigor of spread was quantified as plant diameter (1cm to 26cm), number of stolons (1 to 28), and maximum stolon length (2cm to 130cm). The J.J. Murray collection has a wide range of genetic diversity from which to develop improved cultivars."
