Abstract/Contents: | "Of concern to many turf managers who deal with winter overseeding is the problem of tracking cool-season species off site and subsequently disrupting uniformity of dormant turf. A common practice involves applying a preemergent herbicide adjacent to the overseeded site to control incidental germination of the cool-season species. There has been concern about using prodiamine (Barricade) to control perennial ryegrass in these areas. This study included 2 rates of prodiamine applied to a 3-yr-old stand of Tifway bermudagrass (Cynondon sp.) subsequently overseeding with one rate of perennial ryegrass at a 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-wk interval following herbicide application. Visual assessment of percent control of perennial ryegrass was made on 17 Dec. 1996 and 22 Jan. 1997. At 1 WAT, both rates of prodiamine yielded good control of the ryegrass. With each WAT, control of perennial ryegrass decreased. This study indicates perennial ryegrass to be tolerant to fairly high rates of prodiamine." |
