Abstract/Contents:Describes research which compared nitrogen leaching between turfgrass (St. Augustinegrass) and "a mixed species landscape patterned after principles featured in the University of Florida's Florida Yard and Neighborhoods (FY&N) program." Results showed that "significantly greater N [nitrogen] leaching was observed in the mixed species landscape over the first year of the experiment compared to the St. Augustinegrass lawn." This was attributed "to the combination of a complete vegetative cover with dense rapid adventitious rooting into sand."
