Abstract/Contents: | In 8 tropical grass spp., a positive correlation was found between rate of photosynthesis and leaf N content in the range 0-5% in 1975. The same relationship was found in 1976 except in Panicum dichotomiflorum. With high N conc. rates of photosynthesis tended to decrease in Eleusine coracana, Rhodes grass, Guinea grass, P. coloratum, Dallis grass and Bahia grass, while in Setaria sphacelata the rate increased with increasing N content. Leaves with high leaf N contents showed high rates of photosynthesis and greater increases in rate with increasing N level than those with low N contents. The increase in rate of photosynthesis with increasing light intensity continued to higher light intensities in spp. with high leaf N contents than in spp. with low leaf N contents. |
