Abstract/Contents: | "Determining consumptive water use requirements of fairway quality bermudagrass turf is essential in helping Southern Arizona golf courses meet their mandated water allocations. A study was designed to measure the total water use of Tifgreen, Midiron, and TexTurf-10 bermudagrasses under field conditions in Tucson. Consumptive water use, water use by soil depth, dry weight production, turf quality (density, color, percent groundcover, and wilt), and nitrate-N acumulation in the soil were monitored. In 1989 total water use from April 18 to December 14 was 815, 800 and 950mm of water for Tifgreen, Midiron, and TexTurf-10, respectively. On the average, this represents 60% of predicted total ETâ‚’. Fifty Percent, 30%, and 20%, of soil water use from 0-30, 31-60, and 61-90cm depths, respectively. K^D[c values ranged from 95% of the modified Penman equation at 100% of soil water holding capacity, down to K^D[c of 18% at 34% of soil water holding capacity. In 1990 total water use from March 21 to December 11 was 981, 943, and 973 mm of water for Tifgreen, Midiron, and TexTurf-10, respectively. The average represents 63.5% of the predicted total ETâ‚’." |
