Abstract/Contents:"Kikuyugrass (Pennisetum clandestinum) is a warm season grass that can provide good fairway playing conditions during the cooler months in Southern California when bermudagrass is dormant or nearly dormant. Unfortunately, kikuyugrass can be overly aggressive during the summer months resulting in excessive thatch accumulation and unsightly scalping. Field studies were conducted in 1995 and 1996 at Mesa Verde Country Club (Roger Yenny, CGCS, Superintendent) to determine the efficacy of trinexapac-ethyl (Primo) in improving kikuyugrass quality. Rate of application and duration of clipping reduction and turfgrass quality improvement indicate that rates of 0.11 and 0.18 kg/ha trinexapac-ethyl every 3-4 weeks significantly reduces clipping yield, improves turfgrass quality and reduces scalping."
