Abstract/Contents:"Carbaryl 43 percent SL, carbaryl UCSF-55 (both at 6.72 and 8.97kg ai/ha), trimethacarb UC-27BF32, trimethacarb UC-27BF33 (both at 2.24 and 4.48 kg ai/ha), fenpropathrin 2.4E (at 0.458 and 0.915 kg ai/ha), acephate 75S (at 1.49 kg ai/ha), a mixture of acephate 75S (at 0.747 kg ai/ha) plus fenpropathrin 2.4E (at 0.458 kg ai/ha), and chlorpyrifos 0.5G (at 1.2 kg ai/ha) were applied to caged field plots of St. Augustinegrass, Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze, turf to control southern chinch bugs, Blissus insularis Barber (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae). The low rates of trimethacarb UC-27BF33 and carbaryl UCSF-55 did not yield statistically significant reductions in the populations of treated insects, and control from the high rates of those products was not adequate for practical control. All other treatments reduced chinch bugs populations between ca. one and two powers of magnitude compared to the untreated plots. No treatment-related phytotoxicity was detected."
