Abstract/Contents:	Describes the organic layer above the soil surface known as thatch. Describes the layer under the thatch as mat. Discusses the danger of a high dense thatch level and the negative effects it could have on the turf. Describes the importance of water injection and aeration to promote root growth. Emphasizes the importance of keeping the turf as dry as possible during summer. Provides information to minimize thatch and decrease dollar spots in order to increase turf quality.
